Citrus Pack, a new collection honoring Mediterranean citrus fruit

Auf:

Our connection to the Mediterranean is unique, close and special. Each collection provides a new opportunity to remind you of its influence.

We have paid different tributes to our region over the years: its cities, special places or characteristic buildings.

This year, fruit has inspired us to create the new Citrus Pack collection in homage to the region’s most typical crops.

Using a palette of three colors (green, orange and white), we have depicted the growth of the fruit from when it flowers to when it ripens.

Four varieties, four options

Let’s discuss the varieties lending their name to the different Citrus Pack garments.

The Okitsu mandarin originated in Japan from the Miyagawa seed. It’s harvested between October and January and is very juicy.

It lends its name to a T-shirt made on a special loom for striped fabric. Combining green, white and orange, it is  wholly manufactured in Portugal, as usual.

The Navel orange is one of the best-known Valencian fruits. It’s sweet with a smooth skin, and is harvested from November to May.

It inspired us to design a two-color shirt (green and white) with embroidery on the chest. This garment is wholly manufactured in Portugal too.

The Clementine is the inspiration for another new garment made in Portugal, a combination of two colors (orange and white).

We love the history of this variety of citrus. The clementine is said to result from mixing the pollen of mandarin and orange trees.

The Mikan t-shirt  is one of our favorites. Mikan is the Japanese word for tangerine. It’s one of the strongest links between Spanish and Japanese culture.

The completely orange Mikan T-Shirt has a breast pocket and is wholly manufactured in Portugal.

The unknown origin of Owari

The Owari satsuma tree is strong and vigorous. It’s grown in Japan, in Comunidad Valenciana, its origins unknown. A late-flowering tree, the fruit it produces is not harvested until the fall.

We use the Owari colours in our Citrus Pack swimming trunks, which are made in Portugal from SEAQUAL® YARN.

As mentioned before, SEAQUAL® YARN comes from plastics collected from oceans, seas and rivers by organizations linked to the SEAQUAL INITIATIVE.

Ancestral tradition

Citrus crops have been present in Mediterranean culture from the moment the purest varieties were brought to Spain more than 2,000 years ago.

But the varieties we know today did not take root in the Mediterranean region until well into the 15th century.

We are amazed by how this crop has evolved over thousands of years, and by how it remains such a central part of the lives and works of thousands of people.
